Holding
In a plea bargain proceeding, the court accepted the guilty plea of an accused charged with murdering his wife by beating her with a pounding stick during a domestic dispute. The court reviewed the proposed twelve-year sentence against constitutional sentencing guidelines and current sentencing practice, considered aggravating factors including that the deceased left orphans and was killed for returning home drunk, and mitigating factors including the accused being a first offender who was remorseful. The court accepted the plea agreement and imposed a sentence of twelve years' imprisonment.
Outcome
Accused convicted on guilty plea and sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment
